TSITSIKAMMA NATIONAL PARK
The Tsitsikamma National Park is a protected area on the Garden Route, Western Cape and Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is a coastal reserve well known for its indigenous forests, dramatic coastline, and the Otter Trail. In 2009 Tsitsikamma National Park was amalgamated with the Wilderness National Park and various other areas of land to form the Garden Route National Park.
The park covers an 80km long stretch of coastline. Nature’s Valley is at the western end of the park, and the main accommodation is at Storms River Mouth. Near the park is the Bloukrans Bridge, the world’s highest bridge bungee jump at 216 metres (709 ft).
The word “Tsitsikamma” meanings are ‘place of much water’ and ‘waters begin’.
The Tsitsikamma Marine Protected Area is situated along the shoreline of the park, and provides protection for marine habitat and wildlife, including birds and threatened and endangered fish species. It is one of the largest and oldest restricted (no-take) MPAs in the world.
The location is in near pristine condition and is thus suitable as a suitable area for research on endangered fish species. It was designated as a Marine Protected Area in 1964. The length of the protected shoreline is 60 km, and the area of the protected ocean is 186 km2
TEST RIDE AND SAFETY BRIEFING
Before we enter the National Park we have a full SAFETY BRIEFING and TEST RIDE on the scooters, to make sure everyone is capable and comfortable.
Please Note: The test ride with Larger groups can take up to 20 minutes.
All clients will test drive a 2 wheeler scooter (on the slowest setting) to get used to the controls and only when you are in control of a 2 wheeler will you be allowed to drive a 3 wheeler.
Please Note: If our guides deem your driving ability to be unsafe to join the group we may have to organise you as a passenger on another scooter. Our guides lead from the front of the group and there will be no overtaking. After rain there will be a large amount of mud spray and the dry days can be dusty; please wear clothes that you’re happy to get dirty.
EASY TO CONTROL
Scooters will be quicker to pickup if you’ve had previous moped/motorbike/quad bike experience.
- Simple accelerator controls and no complicated clutch
- Front + back brake and easy to turn handlebars (just like a bicycle)
- Limiter Switches to limit top speed. You will get used to your scooter with the slowest setting- and when you’re feeling comfortable you can up the limiter and enjoy some more power.
EASY TO BALANCE
Our 2 wheeler scooters have very wide off-road tyres- which makes them easy to balance even without previous motorbike/scooter experience. Our 3 wheelers are SELF BALANCING as the wide 2 wheelbase at the back means you don’t have to worry about your balance, and you can focus on driving and enjoying the National Park.
THE SCOOTERS
The scooters are powered by Lithium Ion Batteries (20 Mega-amp hour) which gives the scooter more than enough power and range for clients to explore. The fully electric motor are VERY QUIET when travelling and totally silent when standing still (zero idle engine noise) resulting in a tranquil adventure for all and the Tsitsikamma wildlife is not disturbed.
NO Petrol Engines on our Electric scooters = NO FUMES which could damage the pristine National Park forests!!
The scooters have a high ground clearance and quality suspension for the off-road gravel tracks. Clients who don’t want to drive and younger children can be a passenger with others in their group who are driving.
